Catechists for Public School Children and RCIC

đŸŒ± Catechists for Public School Children & RCIC

At Holy Rosary Parish, we believe in nurturing faith at every stage of a child’s journey. Our Educational Ministries provide dedicated catechists who walk alongside young hearts, guiding them toward a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith. These ministries are essential for reaching children who do not attend Catholic schools and those preparing for full initiation into the Church.

✹ Catechists for Public School Children

Children in the public school system need thoughtful preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. This is where our Catechists play a vital role. Volunteers in this ministry:

  • Teach foundational lessons in Catholic faith and practice
  • Create welcoming, lesson-based environments each week
  • Share joy, patience, and faith in ways children can relate to
  • Support families in sacramental preparation

This ministry is perfect for retired educators, future teachers, and anyone with a heart for young people and a desire to grow in faith. Basic teaching ability and a readiness to learn are all you need to begin.

🌊 RCIC: Rite of Christian Initiation for Children

RCIC is designed for children over the age of 7 who have not been baptized and are seeking full entry into the Catholic Church through Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.

RCIC instructors:

  • Prepare individualized lessons tailored to the child’s age and understanding
  • Guide children and families on a deeply personal spiritual journey
  • Lead by example, sharing their own love of the Church and its sacraments
  • Collaborate with parish teams to celebrate these powerful moments of grace

These catechists must be in good moral and canonical standing, and passionate about sharing the faith with children.

📚 Formation & Support

All catechists are encouraged to pursue Diocesan Catechetical Formation offered by the Diocese of Hamilton. Ongoing support and resources are available to ensure each volunteer is confident and capable in their teaching ministry.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

đŸ•Šïž Children’s Liturgy of the Word at Holy Rosary Parish

At Holy Rosary Parish, we treasure every moment spent nurturing the faith of our youngest parishioners. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word offers a dedicated space where children from kindergarten to grade two can encounter the beauty of Scripture in a way that speaks to their hearts and imaginations.

🌟 What Is It?

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a ministry that presents the Sunday readings in a format tailored to young listeners. During the 9:00 a.m. Mass, children are invited to step out for a short time with trained catechists who help them explore the Gospel through age-appropriate storytelling, discussion, and activities.

đŸ‘©â€đŸ« Who Leads It?

Our catechists are passionate volunteers who:

  • Love the Scriptures and bring that joy to their teaching
  • Work comfortably with children ages 4–7
  • Exercise patience and sensitivity while guiding faith conversations
  • Prepare engaging lessons using provided resources
  • Commit to a regular schedule, assisting at least once a month

Whether you’re a seasoned educator or someone with a heart for ministry, this role is both joyful and meaningful.

🙌 Why It Matters

The early years are a tender time for spiritual development. By creating a welcoming, child-friendly space, we help build a foundation of faith that children carry forward into their lives. Seeing Scripture come alive each Sunday can plant seeds of love, hope, and connection with God’s word.

💒 Get Involved

If you feel called to share the Good News with young souls, we welcome you to join our team. Training, materials, and ongoing support are provided. You’ll be part of a ministry that helps shape the spiritual journey of the next generation, one Sunday at a time.

Catechists and Sponsors for Adults (RCIA)

🌿 Catechists & Sponsors for Adults in RCIA

At Holy Rosary Parish, we’re blessed to accompany adults as they explore and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This transformative journey invites those who are unbaptized, as well as baptized Christians seeking full communion with the Catholic Church, into a rhythm of learning, discernment, and spiritual growth.

đŸ‘©â€đŸ« The Role of the Catechist

Catechists are both teachers and companions on the spiritual path. Rooted in a solid understanding of Catholic doctrine and tradition, they guide candidates through the essential teachings of the faith—making Scripture, liturgy, and Church life accessible and relevant.

Catechists in the RCIA ministry:

  • Teach foundational truths of Catholicism with clarity and compassion
  • Prepare and lead weekly sessions from October to April
  • Foster open, adult-level faith discussions
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team to meet the needs of each participant
  • Model joyful discipleship and a love for the Church

If you’re outgoing, spiritually grounded, and comfortable leading adult learners, this ministry could be a meaningful way to live your baptismal call.

đŸ€ The Role of the Sponsor

Sponsors serve as spiritual mentors and faith companions throughout the RCIA process. They are present at weekly meetings, sacramental celebrations, and beyond—walking hand-in-hand with candidates as they integrate the faith into daily life.

Sponsors:

  • Attend all RCIA sessions with their candidate
  • Share their own faith experiences
  • Offer encouragement, listening, and prayer
  • Witness to the joy of living the Gospel

Sponsorship doesn’t require formal teaching ability, but it does call for a warm heart, open ears, and a willingness to journey deeply with another.

✹ Why It Matters

RCIA is more than a program—it’s an invitation into lifelong transformation. Through the dedication of our catechists and sponsors, we create a safe, welcoming, and inspiring space where seekers become believers, and believers become disciples.

📌 Ready to Serve?

If the Holy Spirit is tugging at your heart, consider answering the call. Training and resources are provided, and you’ll be part of a team that shares the joy of helping others encounter Christ.

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” — St. Catherine of Siena.

Baptism Preparation Ministry

✹ Baptism Preparation Ministry

At Holy Rosary Parish, baptism isn’t just a ceremony—it’s a beginning. Through our Baptism Preparation Ministry, we help families embrace their sacred role as the first teachers of faith and invite them into the beauty of belonging to the Church.

Each month, our dedicated facilitators guide parents through a session that explores the meaning, responsibility, and grace of baptizing their child. These gatherings are more than informational—they’re a spiritual moment that lays the foundation for lifelong faith.

🕊 What We Do

Volunteers in this ministry:

  • Present the Church’s teachings on baptism in an approachable and engaging way
  • Encourage families to live their vocation as the first catechists of their children
  • Assist during the Baptismal celebrations held monthly on Sunday afternoons
  • Share wisdom from their own experiences as parents and believers

We baptize approximately 24 infants a year, each one a joyful celebration of new life in Christ.

🛐 Who Serves

Facilitators in this ministry are:

  • Passionate about nurturing young families in faith
  • Knowledgeable in Catholic doctrine and familiar with the Baptismal rite
  • Trained and supported by our pastoral team
  • Available one Wednesday evening per month, with flexible commitment depending on the number of volunteers

Whether you’re a seasoned parent or someone with a heart for evangelization, this ministry offers a meaningful way to help others begin their journey with God.

🌿 Why It Matters

The baptism of a child marks the moment they are welcomed into the Christian community—a moment overflowing with grace and hope. By preparing families for this step, we help them understand that the journey doesn’t end at the font
it begins there.

If you feel called to share your faith and walk with young families as they celebrate life’s most sacred beginning, we warmly invite you to serve.
